Starting a craft business from scratch!

It all began as a hobby, I’ve always loved creating different things and being crafty! I have 2 small boys and work a full-time job so finding time for anything else is challenging to say the least..but not impossible. When I posted my first 2 hand painted wooden signs online, they were far from perfect but the response I got was nothing short of a blessing. That is when I decided to begin my journey of starting a craft business.

I started from scratch, it was solely Facebook marketing and by word of mouth around the community.  (Shout out to all my local peeps, you all are amazing!!!) Things moved very quickly, faster than we expected which is a great thing but at the same time I wasn’t prepared for it. So I have gradually worked my way up to finally taking the leap of faith and going for it! I let my customers know through my personal facebook page (what I was using to promote at the time) what my goals were and that I wouldn't be taking any new orders for the time being. As much as I hated to do this, it was necessary to get all my ducks in a row and to build up my inventory for my online shop that I will soon launch in the months to come.

After struggling to find the perfect business name, I finally found one that I loved....BUT it was already partially taken ..by partially I mean almost identical to another craft business online :( so back to drawing board I went. When I finally decided a name I then created my Facebook Business page & invited everyone from my personal page to it! As Facebook updates they are adding more and more new features (YAY) Like the "Our Story" section that will display on your page when people visit it! (I used this to give a short summary of how it all came to be along with why I enjoy what I do and where I plan to be in the coming months.)

Now that, that's done, time to get crafty! What I often struggle most with is having so many ideas, so many things I want to create but not having the time to actually do it. This can sometimes be discouraging but at the same time it pushes me figure it out. People often ask how I find time for this...honestly the time I “find” is very minimal, which usually requires me to sacrifice time with my family or sleep. (I am proof that sleep is not a requirement to survive LOL) But my goal is to work as hard as I can to have a successful craft business and see where it will take us and maybe one day our schedule will be more flexible.

I still have a very long road ahead of me but this is what I am passionate about, knowing that I can add a special touch to make a house more of a home is what I love most! This is my calling. I strongly believe you can do anything you put your mind to, you just have to be willing to put up the fight and never give up.
