Being a small business owner & mom in 2023...

Being a small business owner in 2023 is no small feat, especially when you're also juggling the responsibilities of being a mom and content creator. The financial struggle can feel overwhelming at times, but with the right strategies and mindset, you can find balance and thrive in all these roles. In this post, we will explore some tips and techniques to help navigate your small business finances, while still being there for your family and creating valuable content. I also have a few self-care items listed below that I want to share with you! ❤

  1. Set Clear Financial Goals

The first step in getting through a financial struggle as a small business owner is to set clear financial goals. Outline both short-term and long-term objectives for your business. This will help you stay focused and motivated. For example, you might set a goal to increase your monthly revenue by a specific percentage or save a certain amount.

  1. Create a Budget

Creating a budget is essential for small business owners and families alike. List all your sources of income and expenses. Be realistic about what you can afford and allocate funds accordingly. Remember to include personal and family expenses in your budget as well. This will help you see where your money is going and identify areas where you can cut costs.

  1. Separate Personal and Business Finances

One common mistake many small business owners make is mixing personal and business finances. It's crucial to keep these two aspects of your life separate. Open a separate business bank account and track your business expenses meticulously. This will make it easier to manage your finances and prepare for tax season.

  1. Diversify Income Streams

As a content creator, you have a unique opportunity to diversify your income streams. Consider monetizing your content through various platforms, such as YouTube, blogging, or social media. Additionally, explore affiliate marketing, sponsorships, and online courses to supplement your business income. Diversifying your income can provide a financial safety net during tough times.

  1. Time Management and Delegation

Balancing motherhood, content creation, and business ownership requires effective time management. Create a schedule that allocates specific time for each role. Don't hesitate to delegate tasks in your business or at home. Outsourcing certain responsibilities, can free up your time and reduce stress. I struggle most with this one because I want to do it all. I have a hard time trusting anyone else to help and get the job done how I feel it should be done. However, you have to learn how to let go and trust in others to take the lead as you're only one person and in the end trying to do it all yourself will only hurt you more than help you go further. If you are able to lighten the load in any aspect of your life, this allows you more time to focus on what's important.

  1. Seek Financial Advice

If you're struggling with financial management, consider seeking advice from a financial advisor or accountant. They can help you make informed decisions, plan for taxes, and create a financial strategy that aligns with your goals.

  1. Self-Care and Well-Being

Remember that your well-being is crucial. Taking care of yourself both mentally and physically is essential for maintaining balance. Don't hesitate to ask for help from friends, family, or support groups. Prioritize self-care to ensure you're in the best position to manage your small business and family.
