Creating a snowman ornament with wood slices, glitter, white & orange paint, paint pens (optional), and buffalo check ribbon is a fun and festive DIY project that can add a touch of rustic charm to your Christmas tree. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to make this adorable decoration:
Materials You'll Need:
- Wood slices (available on Amazon or any craft store)
- White & Orange acrylic paint
- Paint pens (black paint pen for the snowman's features)
- Glitter (optional for a sparkly touch)
- Buffalo check ribbon or any other ribbon of your choice
- Mod Podge
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Thick Twine for hanging
Step 1: Prepare Your Work Area Set up a clean workspace. Lay down some newspaper or a plastic tablecloth to protect your work surface.
Step 2: Paint the Wood Slice Start by painting the wood slice with white acrylic paint. You may need to apply two or more coats to achieve a solid, even white background. Allow each coat to dry completely before adding the next one.
Step 3: Add Glitter (Optional) First you will need to add mod podge over your white paint. Then you can sprinkle glitter onto the wet mod podge before it dries.
Step 4: Draw the Snowman's Features Once dry, you can take a small paint brush to paint the Snowman's nose in orange. Next, use a black paint pen to draw on the Snowman's eyes and mouth.
Step 5: Attach Snowman's Arms I used 2 pieces of twigs I got from floral from Dollar Tree. You can use real twigs from outside or any floral stems/twigs.
Step 6: Attach the Twine & Ribbon Cut a piece of thick twine, lay the snowman face down and hot glue twine from head of snowman to body. This will hold the snowman together. (Add a dab of hot glue between the two wood slices as well to help hold together) You can create a hanging loop with this as well or add later in the upcoming steps. Then cut the buffalo check ribbon to the desired length for wrapping around your snowman. Use a hot glue gun to attach the ribbon around the snowman, like a scarf.
Step 7: Let It Dry Allow your ornament to dry completely before moving on to the next step. This will ensure that the paint and glue are fully set.
Step 8: Add a Hanging String Create a loop with another piece of twine and hot glue to the back of your snowman to hang on your tree with.
Step 9: Hang Your Snowman Wood Slice Ornament Your DIY snowman wood slice ornament is now complete! Hang it on your Christmas tree, use it as a gift topper, or decorate your home with these charming, handcrafted ornaments.
This project is not only a great way to add a personal touch to your holiday decor but also a fun activity for family and friends to enjoy together during the festive season. Have a wonderful time crafting your snowman wood slice ornaments, and may your Christmas tree be filled with rustic charm and holiday cheer!
